Trouble in Naples?
Victor Osimhen, a Ballon d’Or top 30 nominee, prolific striker, and contender for the African Player of the Year award, joined SSC Napoli from LOSC Lille for a fee of £75m in the 2020/2021 season. Since then, he has won the historic Serie A title (Scudetto), was named striker of the year with 26 league goals last season, and received the Serie A Best Young Player award. Osimhen is undoubtedly the best player in the Napoli team, and his black face mask has become a trademark identity that Napoli fans adore.
Yesterday, Napoli’s official TikTok account posted a trolling video about Osimhen’s penalty miss in their last league game against Bologna, which ended 0-0. The video caused an uproar, primarily among Nigerians. Nigerians appreciate sarcasm and humor, but this wasn’t it.
Fabrizio Romano, a reliable football journalist, posted on X yesterday that Osimhen could take legal action against Napoli, as per his agent. It was also observed that Osimhen deleted Napoli-related pictures and videos from his Instagram.
Football fans of top European teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United are currently expressing their desire for Victor Osimhen to transfer to their respective clubs.
What’s next for the African King? Is his Napoli chapter about to end?
