Notes Mastermind: Mbryo
In the vibrant landscape of Nigerian music, there exists a symphony woven by certain artists who don’t just sing but create a tune that taps into your soul. This ability often leads us, as listeners, to subtly tap our feet, nod our heads, or vigorously shake our bodies in response. However, it’s not just about the beats that make you move, or the symphonic melodies… there’s something about those words that cast a spell, fusing rhythmically together and effortlessly whisking away stress, elevating your spirits. Many times, though, there’s more to this magic than what meets the eye.
If you love good music, you might visit Spotify or Apple Music to listen to “Stamina” by Tiwa Savage, followed by “Rush” by Ayra Starr. Perhaps you’d arrange Crayon’s “Ngozi” and “Ijo labalaba” back to back because it’s hard to decide which one you like more. Singing along to Davido’s “Godfather” comes next, and unbeknownst to you, all these exquisite tracks were penned by a highly creative wordsmith known as Mbryo.
Mbryo, this Afrobeats songwriter, has been the creator of numerous hit songs in the last two years. To call him and his work exceptional would be an understatement. Yet, his name remains hidden from many, a secret waiting to be discovered. However, I am certain this will inevitably change soon. Already, due to his collaboration with Spotify Africa as the new RADAR songwriter, he made an appearance on the Times Square building!. An all-around musical talent with an amazing singing voice and skills in music production, in addition to his forte in songwriting, Mbryo is certainly on the path to being in more spotlights in the near future. Keep an eye out for the next hot single you listen to it might very well be a product of “THE PEN.”
