Nigerian Designer Nifemi Marcus-Bello Receives Special Mention at 2025 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize

Nigerian designer Nifemi Marcus-Bello has been honored with a Special Mention at the prestigious 2025 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, recognizing his innovative approach to contemporary African design.

The award was presented during a ceremony at Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, where 30 finalists from around the world showcased their work.

Marcus-Bello’s piece, the “TM Bench with Bowl,” is crafted from recycled aluminum and draws inspiration from African car culture. The bench reflects the designer’s commitment to sustainability and cultural storytelling through design.

The Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, established in 2016 by Loewe’s former creative director Jonathan Anderson, celebrates excellence in craftsmanship and innovation. This year’s winner was Japanese artist Kunimasa Aoki for his ceramic sculpture “Realm of Living Things 19.”

The exhibition featuring all finalists’ works will be open to the public at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum until June 29, 2025.
