Morocco stamped its authority on African football at the CAF Awards 2025 in Rabat, as Achraf Hakimi claimed the Men’s Player of the Year award following a landmark season for club and country, ending Morocco’s long wait for the honour since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

Hakimi won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, French Ligue 1, and Coupe de France with Paris Saint-Germain, while also reaching the FIFA Club World Cup final. He helped Morocco secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and became the first defender to be named Africa’s best player since TP Mazembe’s Bwanga Tshimen in 1973.

Morocco’s dominance continued across the night: Ghizlane Chebbak secured Women’s Player of the Year, Yassine Bounou was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, and young talents Othmane Maamma and Doha El Madani were both recognised in the youth categories. Cape Verde’s Bubista earned Coach of the Year, while Egypt’s Pyramids FC won Men’s Club of the Year.

Nigeria also shone, with the Super Falcons crowned Women’s Team of the Year and Chiamaka Nnadozie picking up a third straight Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
