Grace Wales Bonner Named Creative Director of Hermès Menswear

Hermès has appointed British designer Grace Wales Bonner as its new Creative Director of Menswear, succeeding Véronique Nichanian after an impressive 37-year tenure. The announcement marks a defining moment in fashion history, as Wales Bonner becomes one of the few Black women to lead a menswear division at a storied French house.

Wales Bonner, who has built a reputation for her thoughtful exploration of heritage, identity, and cultural duality through her eponymous label, stands as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary fashion. Her refined tailoring and subtle nods to Black diaspora aesthetics have earned her international acclaim and collaborations with brands such as Adidas.

Hermès’ decision signals a shift toward a more diverse and forward-looking creative vision while maintaining the house’s dedication to craftsmanship and timeless design. “Grace brings a new sensitivity and modernity to the Hermès man,” the brand said in an official statement.

Wales Bonner will continue overseeing her namesake label alongside her new role. Her first collection for Hermès is set to debut in January 2027, with the in-house studio handling the June 2026 collection during the transition period.
