Game Changers of the Week

It’s another week of the Game Changers of the Week series, spotlighting African players doing bits in Europe’s major leagues. From goals to match-winning performances, we’ve got you covered on the continent’s finest.

Amad Diallo (Côte d’Ivoire) – Manchester United

Ivorian winger Amad Diallo scored a Goal of the Month contender for Manchester United, earning the Red Devils a point and extending their unbeaten run to four games in a 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest. After taking the lead through a Casemiro header in the first half, United conceded twice in two minutes early in the second. But in the 81st minute, Amad unleashed a stunning left-footed volley past Mats Sels to draw United level. It’s his first goal of the season.

André Onana (Cameroon) – Trabzonspor

André Onana was once again in top form for Trabzonspor, keeping a clean sheet as his side held reigning champions and league leaders Galatasaray to a draw. The Cameroonian made five crucial saves to ensure his team left with a point. It’s his second consecutive clean sheet and his third since joining the Turkish side.

Mohamed Salah (Egypt) – Liverpool

Mohamed Salah scored his 250th goal for Liverpool as they ended a run of four straight league defeats with a 2–0 win over Aston Villa. Capitalising on an Emi Martínez error, Salah reacted quickest to place a right-footed shot into an empty net. It’s been a rough start to the season for both Liverpool and Salah, but this could be the spark they need to turn things around.

Moses Simon (Nigeria) – Paris FC

Nigeria’s Moses Simon scored the match-winner for Paris FC in their 1–0 away win at Monaco. With the game goalless at halftime, he broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, showing sharp movement in the box before placing a composed right-footed finish past goalkeeper Philipp Köhn. It’s his third league goal of the season.

Serhou Guirassy (Guinea) – Borussia Dortmund

Serhou Guirassy ended a six-game goal drought for club and country, securing all three points for Borussia Dortmund against Augsburg. Reacting quickest to a loose ball after a deflection, the Guinean striker fired a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper to seal his fifth league goal of the season.
