Fave Kick-starts 2024 with a soulful tune ‘Belong To You’
Introducing Fave, the enchanting voice that has graced the ears of Nigeria’s music lovers with sonorous splendor since her arrival on the music scene.
Amongst the female artists who have come to the limelight in recent years, Fave certainly stands out. Her ethereal blend of talent and charisma, characterized by her ability to portray passion, pain, and feelings of pure delight in such an intense manner, has distinctly set her apart.
It was during the lockdown period of 2020 that Fave first caught the public’s attention, releasing several videos of herself doing song freestyles and I’m certain she could not have foreseen the extent to which her sound would be appreciated and loved. People had been yearning for something different, and she arrived at just the right time, bringing with her a sound completely unlike the usual. Inevitably, we were bound to fall in love. Not long after her bout as an Internet sensation, the producer of one of the beats she freestyled to, Jinmi Abdul, decided to work with her professionally, resulting in her debut single; ‘Nobody But U,’ which was created and released in the same year.
In 2021, she collaborated with the industry giant Olamide, featuring on two of his album songs; ‘Pon pon’ and ‘Want.’ These features brought her tremendous recognition, and later that year, she released her sophomore single ‘Beautifully,’ much to the delight of her ever-growing audience.
2022 witnessed the release of Fave’s magnum opus; ‘Baby Riddim,’ which quickly soared to the number one spot on Nigeria’s turntable chart upon its release. It also became the most Shazam’d afrobeats song globally for six consecutive weeks! She created something so magical, so sensational that everyone who encountered it just couldn’t get enough. Her EP, ‘Riddim 5,’ was released in the same year, featuring four other beautiful singles; Obsessed, S.M.K, Kilotufe, Mr. Man, along with Baby Riddim. She also featured on ‘Loyal,’ a track by one of afrobeat’s most successful female artists, Simi.
In 2023, Fave featured on yet another industry giant’s album. Arguably, the song ‘Kante,’ on which she was featured, was the highlight of Davido’s album, showcasing her ability to execute with expert skill.
While Fave did not release any tracks in 2023, she has quickly taken the new year by storm with her latest release, ‘Belong To You.’ and as expected, the song bears her stamp through and through. As you listen, you’re transported into the very core of her being, experiencing every feeling as though it were your own, not hers. Her luscious and delicate voice pierces through to your subconscious until you’re nearly moved to tears, especially if you can relate. The song, a narrative of disappointment, emotional reflection, hate, and committed love, is a beautiful and poetic rendition. Be warned, though, your heart might break a little just by listening.
