Falz Revives the Legendary Afro-Juju Sound in New Single “Omoge”

Falz breathes new life into Yoruba music culture with the revival of the late 1980s Afro-juju genre in his latest single, OMOGE.

Afro-juju is a Nigerian music style popularized by the legendary Sir Shina Peters in the late 1980s. Energetically blending traditional jùjú with Afrobeat, the genre became a cultural phenomenon following his groundbreaking 1989 album Ace (Afro-Juju Series 1), which sparked what many came to know as “Shinamania.”

On OMOGE, Falz cleverly samples sounds from that iconic era to create a contemporary Afro-juju fusion that feels both rooted and refreshingly current. The song is owambe-certified and tailor-made for dancefloors at weddings and parties.

In the visuals accompanying the release, Falz doesn’t hold back on what he’s trying to portray. From styling to setting, every detail leans into a celebration of Yoruba identity.

Falz has always shown impressive range, from rapping to singing, and this new single is just another shining example.

By tapping into these legendary sounds and visuals, Falz is not only paying homage to one of Yoruba music’s greatest icons but also reviving the vibrant energy of 1980s and ’90s Afro-juju for a new generation.
