“My name is Victory Timothy, I am 23yrs old, and I developed a passion for photography/videography early on, driven by a fascination with capturing moments and telling stories visually. My journey began with experimenting, learning, and eventually honing my skills through various projects and experiences. This passion has grown and is still growing into a fulfilling career, allowing me to blend creativity with technical expertise in a meaningful way.”

Through his lens, Banx has brilliantly captured the spirit of some of the biggest Afrobeat stars, including Burna Boy, Fireboy, Zlatan Ibile, Balloranking, Young John, and the melodious Seyi Vibez in their music videos. This is a glimpse into the inspiring journey of a visionary artist who is shaping the visual storytelling of contemporary African music through captivating visuals, in collaboration with his crew, “Garage Boyz Film.”

Banx has been able to build a portfolio at such a young age that reflects the art of documenting the heart and soul of moments. He knows that to create a lasting brand in the Nigerian entertainment scene, one has to start by being grounded firmly in authenticity and versatility.

Nigeria’s rich culture, heritage, and societal issues have played a significant role in shaping Banx’s creative work. He Says, “Ngl, the societal issues in the country helped me discover my talents, I am inspired by the culture and traditions of Nigeria. We are very artistic and creative when it comes to traditions or culture; we always have beautiful ways to showcase our culture.”

Banx’s journey in the entertainment industry has not been without its fair share of challenges and lessons. These challenges, he believes, are an inherent part of the creative process, and they only serve to fuel his determination to push boundaries and achieve his artistic vision.

Can you share a memorable or challenging experience you’ve had while working on a project in Nigeria?

“I won’t say there’s a memorable experience yet because most projects come with their own unique challenges, ranging from navigating logistical challenges to adapting to unexpected situations, such as changes in locations or equipment issues, so yeah.”

Banx draws inspiration not only from his contemporaries in the photography and videography world but also from artists in other domains, all of whom bring an innovative approach to their craft. Their mastery of elements such as composition and storytelling resonates with Banx, encouraging him to explore new dimensions in his creative endeavors.

Are there any Nigerian photographers or videographers who have had a significant impact on your style or artistic vision?

“Yes, I get inspired by the works of [Meji Alabi, UAX, Walter Banks]. Their innovative approach to specific elements like composition, storytelling, etc., resonates with me, inspiring me to push boundaries and explore new dimensions in my creative endeavors. I get inspired by artists too, not just photographers or videographers. Artists like Skepta, Rema, Dave, all inspire my creativity and style.”

On his future endeavors, Banx is excited for what is to come. He mentions being in constant pursuit of self-improvement, striving towards being the best amongst his peers. He Says, “If I don’t have any upcoming projects, I focus on continuous self-improvement and staying abreast of industry trends. This time allows me to explore personal creative pursuits, experiment with new techniques, and be ready to embrace exciting opportunities as they arise.”
