Boj & Ajebutter reunite on ‘Rora’
BOJ is a musician who was born in England but raised in Nigeria. Along with TeeZee and Fresh L, he forms DRB LasGidi and is widely regarded as an early innovator in the genre of alté music. Alté music incorporates elements from Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, and alternative R&B. The term “Alte” was popularized by BOJ in his 2014 song “Paper” and is now used to denote a wide variety of unconventional musical genres. BOJ defined alté as “freedom to express yourself without boundaries, without the constraints of the mainstream in whatever sector, whether that be fashion, music, photography, whatever it is, man,” in an interview.
Nigerian musician and rapper Ajebutter22 is known for his clean songs and minimalist style. His sophomore album, “What Happens in Lagos,” is considered a remarkable work of art that captures the challenging and rewarding journey of finding one’s way through life.
“Feel Alright” by Show Dem Camp gained widespread attention after the BOJ mayhem. Then, with the assistance of Ajebutter 22, they transformed Naeto C’s “What You Want” into a catchy tune. After careful consideration, Ajebutter and BOJ decided to immortalize the “What We Want” experience with an extended play. It was released in 2018 under the title “Make E No Cause Fight,” featuring 24 tracks centered on themes of sex, love, and the joy of life.
The transition from celebration to romance to introspection was well portrayed. The EP was enhanced with the addition of “Make E No Cause Fight 2,” which included Falz; the EP’s production values reflected artists “in the zone,” experimenting with various sounds.
You can expect to be drawn to the EP’s blend of rap, Afrobeats, and the distinctive Alte mood, with one particular track, “Rora,” from the duo’s “Make E No Cause Fight” EP standing out artistically. The song is a musical masterpiece, marking the triumphant return to the music world of two of Nigeria’s most popular alternative artists. “Rora” is a captivating composition, with seductive lyrics complementing its entrancing instrumental backdrop.
The album, produced by Spax, features a stunning mid-tempo track that will captivate listeners. “Rora” exemplifies Spax’s creativity in crafting such a beautiful piece and presenting it to the Alte duo, who added their unique touch to create a gem.
