Black Sherif releases “January 9th” in celebratory spirit

Over the years, various foreign artists have made their mark on the Nigerian music scene, and they have come to know and to bask in the unwavering love of the Nigerian fan base. Nigerians cherish good music, and once you deliver, the affection follows, regardless of your origin. It’s as straightforward as that. Just ask Black Sherif. While he might have much to share on the subject, I’ll share a glimpse, sparing you an influx of questions for him.

Hailing from Konongo Zongo, Ghana, Black Sherif embarked on his musical journey in 2019 with his first song “Cry for me.” In 2020, “Money” followed, and May 2021 saw the release of “First Sermon,” a song that was embraced warmly by his burgeoning fan base. By July of the same year, he dropped the sequel, “Second Sermon,” featuring Burna Boy. The song’s success marked his breakout moment and extensively broadened his musical influence. March 2022 witnessed the unveiling of his magnum opus, “Kwaku The Traveler,” a chart-topping sensation in Ghana as well as in Nigeria, with this song, our already growing admiration for his style of music was solidified. Building on this momentum, he released his inaugural album, “The Villain I Never Was,” later that year.

Post-album, Black Sherif graced 2023 with enchanting singles and featured on several musical projects, collaborating with artists like Sarkodie, Blaqbonez, and Odumodu Blvck to name but a few.

To kick off 2024, he released his latest song on the 9th of January. The name of the song? “January 9th”. The release of the song on its namesake being a deliberate  gesture to commemorate his birthday.

The song is a narrative of his life’s journey, a testament to his resilience, accompanied by an infectious beat and Black Sherif’s signature singing style that has captured our hearts. It’s a musical narrative worth experiencing.
