Achraf Hakimi Joins Elite Company after UCL Win

Achraf Hakimi etched his name deeper into African football history on Saturday night as the Moroccan right-back helped Paris Saint-Germain secure their first-ever UEFA Champions League title, scoring in their 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan.

In doing so, he earned his second winners’ medal, becoming one of only a select few African players to win Europe’s top club competition more than once and notably, with two different clubs. His first came in 2018 with Real Madrid, and now, seven years later, he lifts the trophy again as a key figure in PSG’s team.

Winning the Champions League once is remarkable. Winning it twice puts a player in truly elite company, particularly for African stars, where such repeat success remains rare. Hakimi now joins a short but distinguished list:

Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon) – The only African with three Champions League titles: 2006 and 2009 with Barcelona, and 2010 with Inter Milan. Eto’o remains the standard, having scored in two finals.

Geremi Njitap (Cameroon) –  Geremi won the trophy with Real Madrid in 2000 and 2002, playing a versatile role across defence and midfield during their early-2000s dominance.

Seydou Keita (Mali) – A two-time winner with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, Keita was a part of Pep Guardiola’s golden era—a quiet but vital presence in midfield.

Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) – His first title came with Real Madrid in 2018, where he made appearances during the campaign, even though he didn’t feature in the final. In 2025, he returned as a cornerstone of PSG’s historic run, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists from right-back.

Hakimi has now become the first Moroccan and only the fourth African to achieve this feat.
