Meet the Artist: Kosi Okafor

Meet Kosi Okafor, also known as kosithecreator, a 26-year-old Nigerian digital artist whose passion for art began at the tender age of seven. Growing up, Kosi experimented with various mediums, but it wasn’t until six years ago that he settled on digital art. Amidst some minor obstacles, Kosi has been working as a professional artist for the past three years.

Speaking on the source of his inspiration, He says;

    “…life generally inspires my paintings; the music i listen to as well. i believe existence is a fascinating concept and I try to paint things or figures that are hauntingly beautiful or interestingly captivating. something that’ll make you look twice.”

He defines his art as “surreal-realism”.      

     “…Most of the time i don’t put a name to my style but i think surreal-realism sounds perfect..”

He recently coined this unique style which is a blend of surrealism and realism that he refers to as surreal-realism.

Kosi’s paintings are inspired by life and the music he listens to. In his words;

Kosithecreator holds a degree in Geography and Planning from the University of Lagos. What sets Kosi apart from other artists is that he is self-taught in both drawing and ambidexterity. Ten years ago, Kosi taught himself to draw with both hands, a skill that has undoubtedly contributed to his versatility as an artist.

Kosi’s journey to becoming a professional artist hasn’t been without its challenges. Like many aspiring artists, he faced some minor obstacles along the way. However, his determination and hard work have paid off, and today, he is making a name for himself in the art world.

Kosi’s art is a reflection of his personality – hauntingly beautiful and captivatingly interesting. His paintings are a blend of reality and surrealism that leave viewers spellbound. Whether it’s a portrait or a landscape, Kosi’s art is always thought-provoking.

As Kosi continues to grow as an artist, he hopes to achieve more recognition both locally and internationally. He believes that his unique style sets him apart from other artists and hopes that it will help him stand out in the crowded art world.
