A case study: Ajebo Hustlers’ “No Wam”

Ajebo Hustlers, comprised of members Piego and Knowledge, is a Nigerian Afrobeat and Highlife duo. Port Harcourt is their home base. They were nominated for the best songwriter award at the 2022 Headies Awards and won the best duet award at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards. In 2020, the “Barawo” Remix, produced by 1da Banton and featuring the BET Award-winning singer and songwriter Davido, propelled them to fame. The song enjoyed extensive airplay and topped the charts in Nigeria and across the country.

Following their triumphant UK Tour in May 2023, they released a hit single titled “You Go Know,” and now they’re back with a new strong song titled “No Wam.” This is a natural result of their consistent high-quality music output.

In Pidgin, to imply that there is no problem, one may say “no wam.” This track was created by UCEE, and it showcases his ability to create stunning sounds that elevate the song to new heights and make it irresistible to listen to.

Ajebo Hustlers have mastered the art of blending the energy of Afrobeats with emotionally driven lyrics. This allows them to convey profound messages while providing an engaging experience for the listener.

Lyrically, the song delves deep into the complexities of love and relationships, including the turmoil that can result from one spouse cheating on the other. Their unique storytelling and the use of “lamba” (a form of vocal improvisation and wordplay) make “No Wam” relatable to anyone who has experienced the challenges of love.

The band’s latest song, “No Wam,” is a magnificent masterpiece that showcases the group’s unique take on their style and makes it genuinely modern.
