Africa’s Creative All-Stars Converge for Nike x Homecoming™ Sneaker Unveiling

Grace Ladoja pulls together a powerhouse cast of creatives from across Africa and the diaspora for the Air Max unveiling.

The Homecoming™ Festival has once again proven why it’s one of Africa’s premier platforms for unapologetic excellence. This year, amongst other signature annual highlights, the spotlight shone brightest on the unveiling of the Nike x Homecoming Air Max Plus, a landmark sneaker co-designed by festival founder Grace Ladoja MBE, who has just become the first African woman (and first Nigerian woman) in history to design a signature Nike shoe.

The event was more than just a product drop; it was a full cultural homecoming. In the true spirit of a homecoming, there was a powerful coming-together of creative all-stars from Africa and the diaspora right here in Lagos. Designers, content creators, artists, musicians, fashion insiders, and sneaker enthusiasts from across the continent and beyond gathered for what felt like a family reunion with serious style.

Grace Ladoja, the visionary behind the festival since 2017, has long been a bridge between London, Lagos, and the global African narrative. Her decade-plus relationship with Nike, from early creative direction to powering festival activations, reached its pinnacle with this collab. As she put it in conversations around the drop, “Home for me is London. But the fabrication of the shoe is really Lagos. It’s really Africa.” The design pulls directly from everyday African life. The mesh upper draws from the African sponge, reimagined into a premium, breathable texture. The detailing follows through in the laces: green and white tones, while cowries and eagle motifs appear as charms, embedding cultural symbols directly into the silhouette.

The Nike x Homecoming™ Air Max Plus  comes in two exclusive colorways that capture the spirit of the festival and the continent:

  • Pan-African Edition (Black/University Red-Court Green):

A grounded look symbolizing unity across Africa and its diaspora. Featuring a textured black mesh, vibrant red and green accents on the laces, green Nike Swoosh, and custom metal Homecoming™ hangtag with a little black ball charm. Looking like an everyday put on.

  • African Sunrise / Safety Orange Edition:

Inspired by Lagos sunrises. It features an Orange mesh with ombré caging, paint-dipped toe box, white rope laces, and that signature Tuned Air cushioning for maximum Lagos-street energy.

Both pairs come with multiple lace options, including chunky rope styles, and a custom pendant that screams “no place like Homecoming.” Priced at $190, the sneakers launched exclusively at the Homecoming Concept Space on April 4 and will be available globally from April 23.

This is as much about representation and power as it is about footwear. Grace Ladoja’s milestone as the first African woman to design a sneaker with Nike is a historic moment for the culture.

As the 9th edition of Homecoming™ Festival wraps up today (April 6), the energy is undeniable. Homecoming™, which arrives each year with a defining activation, finds its standout moment this time in the shoe alongside the Lagos-shot campaign with African creatives.
