Funke Akindele remains the highest-grossing filmmaker in Nollywood. Her films consistently break records at the cinema.

From the long-running Jenifa’s Diary series (which began over a decade ago and built a massive loyal fanbase) to her more recent cinema blockbusters, Everybody Loves Jenifa and Behind The Scenes (2025), she has consistently delivered massive theatrical runs. Everybody Loves Jenifa grossed nearly ₦1.9 billion, while Behind The Scenes made history as the first Nollywood film to cross the ₦2 billion mark at the African box office, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood project of all time.

Kemi Adetiba: The Cinematic Visionary

Toyin Abraham started her acting career in 2003 and patiently waited nearly two decades before making her directorial debut with the YouTube feature film Listening Ears in 2021.

Her perfect mix of humor, drama, and everyday Nigerian realities has paid off handsomely. In December 2025, she made history with her cinema directorial debut Oversabi Aunty, which crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office. The film became the first Nollywood directorial debut to achieve this milestone and currently ranks as the 4th highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time.

One of Nollywood’s most versatile talents, a celebrated actress, writer, producer, and director, Omoni Oboli is known for creating emotionally intelligent and highly relatable stories. She has a special gift for exploring real-life topics around family dynamics, marriage, relationships, love, betrayal, personal growth, and women’s experiences, all delivered with honesty and heart.

From her directorial debut with Being Mrs Elliott (2014) to her massive 2025 YouTube successes, she continues to dominate the digital space. Ruth Kadiri: The YouTube Powerhouse and Talent Developer

Ruth Kadiri released an impressive 42 films in 2025 alone on her YouTube channel, in her quest to become a dominant force in digital Nollywood. She is continuing that momentum into 2026, already with six titles to her name, including My Love From the Village, Light of My Life, The Choice We Make, and more.

Her productions are light, relatable, and often laced with everyday humour, built for easy, engaging viewing.

In 2026, alongside her prolific output, she has announced plans to groom and support 10 new stars. Her ability to balance that volume with mentorship makes her one of the hardest-working filmmaker-producers today.

Jade Osiberu 

Jadesola Osiberu, founder of Greoh Studios, is a talented writer, director, and producer who made her mark with the romantic comedy Isoken (2017), followed by the hit Sugar Rush (2019), the intense crime thriller Brotherhood (2022), and the action-packed Gangs of Lagos (2023) — one of the first major Nigerian original films on Amazon Prime Video.

In 2024, she directed Christmas in Lagos, a vibrant holiday romantic comedy that captured the energy, music, and festive spirit of the city.

She has since secured a major three-year overall deal with Amazon Prime Video (a historic first for an African filmmaker at the time), which allows her to develop and produce original scripted films and series through Greoh Studios. She continues to push Nollywood toward international standards while mentoring young talent and advocating for stronger collaboration across the industry.

Her work often explores modern Nigerian life — love, ambition, crime, family, and identity — with cinematic quality, cultural confidence, and universal appeal.

Biodun Stephen: The Queen of Relatable Drama

Nominated twice at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Biodun Stephen is one of the most consistent and prolific directors working today. From the remake of the nostalgic Aki na Ukwa to Aki and Pawpaw, as well as the AMVCA-winning Introducing the Kujus, she has built a reputation for emotionally resonant storytelling. Through her BIODUNSTEPHEN TV YouTube channel, she continues to tell relatable stories that feel lived-in and emotionally familiar.
