Game Changers of the Week

It’s another week of the Game Changers of the Week series, spotlighting African players doing bits across Europe’s major leagues. From goals and assists to commanding defensive displays, we’ve got you covered on the continent’s finest.

Antoine Semenyo – Bournemouth (Ghana)

Antoine Semenyo’s stock keeps skyrocketing, and this week it reached a new high with his five-star performance for Bournemouth against Fulham. With the Cherries trailing in the 70th minute, he took matters into his own hands eight minutes later, beating his man on the left wing, driving to the byline, and scoring from a tight angle. He then assisted Justin Kluivert’s stunner before rounding off the game with Bournemouth’s third goal in added time. It’s now six goals and three assists in seven games for the Ghanaian winger.

Mohammed Kudus – Tottenham Hotspur (Ghana)

Another Ghanaian making headlines this weekend was Mohammed Kudus. Against Leeds on Saturday, he provided an assist and scored his first goal for Spurs in their 2–1 win. Operating from his familiar right wing, Kudus teed up Mathys Tel for his first Premier League goal. Leeds equalised soon after, but in the 57th minute, Kudus capitalised on poor defending to arrow a left-footed strike past Karl Darlow. To mark the occasion, he pulled out his trademark “sitting on the stool” celebration, the first of many, hopefully, for the Ghanaian winger.

André Onana – Trabzonspor (Cameroon)

On loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United, André Onana has had a mixed spell so far, but this weekend he was outstanding in his side’s victory over Kayserispor. The Cameroonian made seven saves, maintained 82% pass accuracy, and kept a clean sheet in the process. He’ll be hoping to build on this momentum.

Paul Onuachu – Trabzonspor (Nigeria)

The Turkish Super Lig’s top scorer right now is a Nigerian, and it isn’t Victor Osimhen — it’s Paul Onuachu. The Nigerian striker set up a 12th-minute goal before converting from the spot in added time to seal a 4–0 win for Trabzonspor over Kayserispor. He now has six goals and one assist in eight appearances, a stellar run for the towering forward.

Frank Zambo Anguissa – Napoli (Cameroon)

Frank Anguissa was at the heart of everything good for Napoli as they came from behind to defeat Genoa 2–1 in Serie A. After going down in the first half, Anguissa reacted first to a loose ball to head home the equaliser. As Napoli pushed for the winner, his shot was saved by goalkeeper Nicola Leali before Rasmus Højlund turned home the rebound to secure all three points for the Partenopei.

That’s it for this week’s Game Changers. See you next week.
